Technical Overview: Steel Bollards (Bolt-Down vs Dig-In)
General Features (Both Bolt-Down & Dig-In)
Bollard Supplies offers galvanised steel bollards constructed from CHS (circular hollow section) with a thickness of 5mm, available in diameters of 114mm, 139mm, and 168mm.
These bollards can be powder coated, typically in yellow, for enhanced visibility, and can be customised to other RAL colours with stripes or reflective bands on request.
Fabricated in-house by coded welders, they are designed for strong, long lasting performance in demanding commercial settings
Both installation options serve distinct roles in site safety and security architecture:
Choose Bolt Down if you require a flexible, easy-to-install barrier that offers effective protection without extensive groundwork, especially in areas with logistical constraints or occasional layout changes.
Choose Dig In when maximum structural integrity and resistance to vehicular impacts are critical perfect for high traffic zones or where security and permanence are priorities.
Bollard Supplies in-house fabrication, quick response ethos, and customisation capabilities underscore their reliability as a supplier
Bolt-Down Bollards
Design & Installation
Mounting Method: Secured to existing concrete or tarmac surfaces via a base plate and 4 ground anchors (as stipulated for 114 mm, 139 mm, and 168 mm models)
Installation Process: Position bollard, mark holes through the base plate, drill into surface, and insert anchors to fasten securely
Advantages
Ease of Installation: No excavation required, ideal for retrofit applications or where underground utilities or structures exist
Versatility: Can be relocated or replaced with minimal effort
Durability: Galvanised steel and PPC finish offer strong resistance to corrosion and everyday wear
Ideal Uses: Warehouses, car parks, and commercial premises where visual guidance and collision protection are needed
Dig-In Bollards
Design & Installation
Mounting Method: Embedded directly into the ground—set into concrete footings for maximum anchorage
Depth and Security: The bollard is secured via the surrounding soil and concrete, creating a permanent, rigid barrier.
Advantages
Stability: Excellent resistance to high-impact collision—ideal for high‑risk zones
Permanent Protection: Once installed, they serve as fixed, immovable deterrents—for example in loading bays and around sensitive infrastructure.
Offered Sizes
Available in the same diameters (114 mm, 139 mm, 168 mm) and finishes (galvanised or powder‑coated) as bolt‑down options. Typical heights are 1.5 m for dig‑in variants
